cnidarian

  • RESEARCH ARTICLE
Cytoskeletal and synaptic polarity of LWamide-like+ ganglion neurons in the sea anemone Nematostella vectensis
Michelle C. Stone, Gregory O. Kothe, Melissa M. Rolls, Timothy Jegla
    Journal of Experimental Biology 2020 223: jeb233197 doi: 10.1242/jeb.233197 Published 10 November 2020

Summary: The first molecular characterization of neuronal polarity in a cnidarian: tripolar ganglion neurons in the body column of a sea anemone extend equivalent neurites with no axo-dendritic specialization.

  • RESEARCH ARTICLE
Carbonic anhydrases are influenced by the size and symbiont identity of the aggregating sea anemone Anthopleura elegantissima
Jack Cushman Koch, E. Alan Verde, Virginia M. Weis
    Journal of Experimental Biology 2020 223: jeb221424 doi: 10.1242/jeb.221424 Published 10 July 2020

Summary: Symbiosis and body size are important in determining carbonic anhydrase activity and gene expression in the temperate symbiotic sea anemone Anthopleura elegantissima.

  • RESEARCH ARTICLE
Environmental entrainment demonstrates natural circadian rhythmicity in the cnidarian Nematostella vectensis
Ann M. Tarrant, Rebecca R. Helm, Oren Levy, Hanny E. Rivera
    Journal of Experimental Biology 2019 222: jeb205393 doi: 10.1242/jeb.205393 Published 12 November 2019

Summary: The subtidal anemone Nematostella vectensis exhibits strong circadian behavioral rhythms following entrainment in natural conditions. Corresponding transcriptional rhythms suggest that solar radiation drives physiological cycles in this sediment-dwelling animal.

  • RESEARCH ARTICLES
Activation of the cnidarian oxidative stress response by ultraviolet radiation, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and crude oil
    A. M. Tarrant, A. M. Reitzel, C. K. Kwok, M. J. Jenny
    Journal of Experimental Biology 2014 217: 1444-1453; doi: 10.1242/jeb.093690
  • RESEARCH ARTICLES
Similar specificities of symbiont uptake by adults and larvae in an anemone model system for coral biology
Elizabeth A. Hambleton, Annika Guse, John R. Pringle
    Journal of Experimental Biology 2014 217: 1613-1619; doi: 10.1242/jeb.095679
  • RESEARCH ARTICLES
The influence of photosynthesis on host intracellular pH in scleractinian corals
Julien Laurent, Sylvie Tambutté, Éric Tambutté, Denis Allemand, Alexander Venn
    Journal of Experimental Biology 2013 216: 1398-1404; doi: 10.1242/jeb.082081
  • METHODS & TECHNIQUES
    Symbiodinium isolation by NaOH treatment
    Thamilla Zamoum, Paola Furla
    Journal of Experimental Biology 2012 215: 3875-3880; doi: 10.1242/jeb.074955
