Cover: A túngara frog sits on the edge of a chorus in Gamboa, Panama, listening to the calls of males. Mating calls serve as the primary mediator of social interactions in túngara frogs, including female mate choice. Chakraborty and Burmeister (pp. 3671–3677) show that estradiol changes the way that a female's brain responds to the sounds of mating calls. Not only does estradiol increase the neural activity of the auditory system, it modifies how the preoptic area responds to mating calls in a manner that predicts mate choice decisions.
