Cover: The annual killifish Austrofundulus limnaeus inhabits desert ponds in the Maracaibo Basin of Venezuela. These ponds undergo large daily fluctuations in temperature and may reach maximum temperatures over 40¡C. Podrabsky and Somero (pp. 2237-2254) use microarray technology to investigate changes in gene expression that may underlie the ability of these hardy fish to thrive under the variable and often harsh conditions imposed by their desert habitat.
