Asterisks indicate statistical differences between temperatures. Values are means +1 s.e.m. (N as in text). Note that the data on organ mass are for the intact (with blood) mice only.

    14-day mean ambient temperature (T) versus energy intake (residuals) (I) after the effects of body mass had been removed for deer mice at either 3800m (open circles) or 370m (filled triangles). The equation for the regression line for the entire data set was I=−2.95T+43.2 (r2=0.57; P=0.0001).
