Cover: The flame 'scallop' Ctenoides mitis, a nestling species that attaches to the substrate with byssal threads. Although superficially similar to the better-known byssal attachment of epifaunal mussels, the threads of C. mitis are weaker than mussel byssal threads but are 20−25% more extensible (see article by T.
