About the Cover
Cover: Wolf spider males produce complex seismic (vibratory) signals during courtship. The mechanisms wolf spiders use to produce seismic signals are poorly understood. Elias, Lee, Hebets and Mason investigated the wolf spider Schizocosa stridulans and found that spiders produce seismic signals using a combination of different body parts each producing signal components with distinct mechanisms (pp. 1074−1084). In addition, male spiders produce complex signals by combining components either sequentially (serial multicomponent signals) or simultaneously (parallel multicomponent signals).
