Cover: Tritonia diomedea is a nudibranch mollusc found in the NE Pacific. Tritonia glides on its foot epithelium, propelled by coordinated ciliary beating in a mucus film; however, little is known about how the animal controls this behavior. Woodward and Willows (pp. 2749−2764 and 2765−2773) report that Tritonia's ciliary beating rate is controlled by the release of peptides and transmitters found in nearby neurons. By measuring ciliary beating frequency and whole cell currents of ciliated cells, the authors found that dopamine modulation of a Ca²⁺ activated Cl⁻ current leads to changes in ciliary beating rate.
