About the Cover
Cover: The extremely active nutritional habits of the migratory locust require a very fast midgut cell turnover driven by proliferation and differentiation taking place at epithelial regenerative niches. Illa-Bochaca and Montuenga (pp. 2215−2223) have studied the midgut epithelial cell dynamics by means of bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) pulse−chase experiments. The bottom inset shows BrdU nuclear labelling after continuous administration of BrdU (every 48 h). The top inset shows a regenerative niche in which BrdU-positive nuclei (brown) and an endocrine cell (pink) are labelled. The locust midgut epithelium regenerative niche is a simple model to study cell fate from epithelial stem cells.
