About the Cover
Cover:
The relationship between metabolic rate and body mass has been the topic of lively debate for over 150 years. Is there a universal scaling law that spans biological systems ranging in size from molecular units of the cells' metabolic machinery to trees and mammals? The contributions to this special issue reveal that, while there is still no consensus regarding the 'true' scaling exponent for this relationship, close collaboration between theoreticians and experimentalists will likely prove to be the key to future developments in the field of allometric scaling.
