About the Cover
Cover:
A newly developed miniature transmitter provides scope for radio-tracking tiny species whose spatial behaviour is virtually unknown (see article by B. Naef-Daenzer, D. Früh, M. Stalder, P. Wetli and E. Weise on pp. 4063-4068). The cover shows the transmitter on an owl butterfly, Caligo memnon, with a wing span of 12-15 cm. With the smallest battery, the device weighs only 0.2 g but nevertheless transmits for about 3 weeks, which is the insects' entire life as an imago (here, the instrument is mounted on a dead specimen; live owl butterflies keep their wings closed).
