About the Cover
The South American rainbow crab, Chasmagnathus granulatus, is an abundant species along the Atlantic coast of Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. It is strongly euryhaline, maintaining nearly constant hemolymph ionic concentrations in seawater ranging from 2ä to 45ä salinity. When subjected to hypo- or hypersaline environments, ion transporter gene expression in posterior gills is significantly upregulated (see article by C. M. Luquet, D. Weihrauch, M. Senek and D. W. Towle, pp. 3627-3636). Photograph courtesy of Dr Horst Onken.
