About the Cover
Cover:
Changes in gill morphology during development in the obligate air-breathing teleost Arapaima gigas (see Commentary by C. J. Brauner, V. Matey, J. M. Wilson, N. J. Bernier and A. L. Val on pp. 1433-1438). When fish are relatively small (10ág; 1ámonth old), gill filaments possess characteristic lamellae (bottom, left). These disappear by the time fish reach 1ákg (6ámonths old; bottom, right).
