About the Cover
Cover:
Innervation of the salivary gland of the cockroach Periplaneta americana (see article by Baumann, Kühnel, Dames and Walz, pp. 2565-2575). Dopaminergic and serotonergic nerve fibres (green and red in the scheme) have a different distribution over and within the acini and the duct system of the salivary gland. The location of release sites for the secretagogues was determined by triple labelling of salivary glands with BODIPY-FL phallacidin (blue) to reveal the organization of the glandular tissue, with antibodies against the various secretagogues (anti-serotonin; green) and with anti-synapsin (red) as a marker for the release sites.
