About the Cover
Cover:
The strawberry poison frog Dendrobates pumilio exists in a great variety of color morphs (some of which are pictured here) in the region of Panama's Bocas del Toro Archipelago. The aposematic color signals displayed by this species must all warn off potential predators, such as birds, while permitting species or population recognition by females for appropriate mate choice. A visual ecological study of these colors shows that they are well discriminated from each other and from backgrounds, both by birds and by conspecific frogs (see article by A. Siddiqi, T. W. Cronin, E. R. Loew, M. Vorobyev and K. Summers, pp. 2471-2485). Photographs by K. Summers and M. Guerra.
