About the Cover
Cover: A male wandering albatross (Diomedea exulans) incubating its egg on the Crozet Islands, after a rain shower. The energy expenditure and response to environmental factors and to stress of albatrosses have been estimated from measurements in the field, using miniaturised loggers, of the heart rate of incubating birds (Weimerskirch, Shaffer, Mabille, Martin, Boutard and Rouanet, pp. 475-483). It has been possible to show that previous measurements of the energy expenditure of incubating albatrosses were overestimated because of stress caused by experimental conditions.
