About the Cover
Cover: Differential distribution of lipids in live neonate mosquito Anopheles gambiae larvae (see Atella and Shahabuddin, pp. 3623-3630). Texas-Red-labeled phosphatidylethanolamine (red) and BODIPY-labeled palmitic acid (green) were imported from the maternal hemolymph by the developing mosquito oocyte. After emergence from the egg, the living larva was examined immediately with a confocal microscope. Most of the imported maternal phospholipid was sequestered in the intestinal gastric caeca and the upper intestine, whereas most fatty acid was sequestered in vesicles and distributed in the thorax and along the body, especially at the base of the body hair.
