About the Cover
The head of a south American insect, Prosarthria teretrirostris. This insect has an elongated head and a long thin body and legs so that it looks like a stick insect, but in fact it is more closely related to grasshoppers, as suggested by its large eyes. It combines the ability to move slowly and freeze its posture for long periods, like a stick insect, with a prodigious ability to jump and kick, like a grasshopper. The mechanisms underlying these rapid movements are explored by Burrows and Wolf (pp. 1519-1530).
