Movie 1. Instantaneous velocity fields of Cassiopea during contraction. Instaneous velocity fields were generated using high-speed particle image velocimetry during bell contraction. Colors correspond to the magnitude of the velocity. The jellyfish measured about 2 cm in diameter.

Movie 2. Numerical simulation of a model jellyfish. Vorticity color plot with superimposed velocity vectors illustrating the flow generated by a numerical model of an upside down jellyfish during four pulsing cycles. The length of the arrows corresponds to the magnitude of the velocity. The sides of the bell, manubrium and porous model of the oral arms are also shown.

Movie 3. Flow visualization of the jet produced by Cassiopea. Fluorescein dye was gravity fed through the bottom of an aquarium. The pulsations of the jellyfish bell generated flow from the bottom of the tank through the sand and upward into the water column.
