Top panel shows daylength simulations. Birds were wintered under conditions of European-type short-distance migration (dotted line) and during the spring migration period, either remained under these (European-type; black line) conditions or were exposed to the slower daylength increase under Siberian-type long-distance migration (grey line). Bottom panel shows the daily mean duration of nocturnal migratory restlessness for the two groups.
