Within-record comparisons of respiratory quotients (averages of the first, second and third hour of recording) in the first repetition (A), second repetition (B) and third repetition (C) (means ± s.e.m.; A, N=19; B, N=17; C, N=13). Differences were marginally significant in the first measurement (F2,36=2.9; P=0.068; repeated-measures ANOVA), significant in the second measurement (F2,34=8.10; P=0.0013; repeated-measures ANOVA) and non significant in the third measurement (F2,24=2.61; P=0.094; repeated-measures ANOVA). After pooling repetitions, the comparison became highly significant (F2,98=10.48; P=0.0001; repeated-measures ANOVA).
