Fig. S1. The animal eye specific imaging system (AESIS). (A) Front view. The filter-holder wheel is behind the opening, and in front of the lens. (B) Rear view. The camera and the two step-motors can be seen. There are two filter-holder wheels that are independently controlled by the step-motors.
Fig. S2. The illumination spectrum of the light source used for the indoor imaging with the AESIS. UV fluorescent lamps and halogen lamps were combined to provide the full range of UV−VIS light.
Fig. S3. Reflectance spectra of the white and gray standards used in this study. The reflective property data of the 100, 75, 50 and 25% SpectralonTM standards (Labsphere, North Sutton, NH, USA) were obtained from the Labsphere website (http://www.labsphere.com/). Black line: 100% white standard (WS-1-SL, Ocean Optics); red line: 75% gray standard (SRS-75-010, Labsphere); blue line: 50% gray standard (SRS-50-010, Labsphere); green line: 25% gray standard (SRS-25-010, Labsphere). All of these standards are flat across the spectral range of 300−700 nm.
