Each point and its associated error bars represent the slope (and error) of a linear regression of oxygen consumption versus number of embryos per vial (6–8 vials per point). See Marsh and Manahan (Marsh and Manahan, 1999) for details of the method. Q10 values for metabolism were 18.8, 30.0 and 9.6 for early-, mid- and late-stage embryos, respectively.
