Movie 1. Free-swimming Nemopsis bachei. This video shows three consecutive cycles of jet propulsion Nemopsis bachei, in which the wake is made visible by oral cavity dye injection. A vortex ring is created during the bell contraction phase, but no vortex is created during the bell relaxation phase. 250 frames s−1 recording, 30 frames s−1 playback (MPEG; 1.6 MB).
Movie 2. Free-swimming Aurelia aurita. This video shows the jet-paddling swimming mode exhibited by Aurelia aurita, in which the wake is made visible by fluorescene dye injection.
