Acclimation II resulted in adjustments in basal metabolic rate (BMR, W) in laughing doves Streptopelia senegalensis that were negatively related to the change in acclimation air temperature (Tacc). The relationship between the change in BMR ({Delta}BMR) within individuals and the change in Tacc ({Delta}Tacc) was best described by a cubic regression model {Delta}BMR=-3.5634-0.4394{Delta}Tacc+0.0148({Delta}T acc)2-0.0004({Delta}Tacc)3 (r2=0.493, F3,26=8.414, P<0.001), where {Delta}BMR is the change in BMR expressed as a percentage of acclimation I BMR and {Delta}Tacc is the change in Tacc between acclimation I and II.
