The vessels were incubated with ET-1 (10-8 mol l-1) until a maximal constriction was achieved, and then either SNP (10-4 mol l-1), ACh (10-5 mol l-1), or nicotine (3x10-4 mol l-1) was added. All three chemicals caused a marked vasodilation.
