JEB01579 Supplementary Material
Files in this Data Supplement:
Movie 1 Chrysopelea paradisi gliding flight sequence 1. In this clip, the snake jumped from the launch branch and landed out of the field of view, making a small turn at the end of the trajectory. The snake (mass 27·g and SVL 63·cm) traveled a horizontal distance of 12.8·m, reaching a maximum speed of 9·m·s–1 and minimum recorded glide angle of 27°. The view is from an overhead video camera attached to the right side of the tower. The snake launched from a height of 9.62·m. The yellow and black markers on the ground are references used in trajectory reconstruction. Recorded at the Singapore Zoological Gardens in Singapore.
Movie 2 Chrysopelea paradisi gliding flight sequence 2. The glide trajectory in this sequence is similar to that in Movie 1 but is shown to illustrate the view from the second overhead camera on the left side of the tower. This medium-sized snake (mass 36·g and SVL 69·cm) traveled a horizontal distance of 14.7·m, reaching a maximum speed of 9·m·s–1 and a minimum recorded glide angle of 27°.
