This movie shows an example of the alcid
dives from which estimates of speed, dive angle, flap rate and subsequent
parameters were measured.The
video was produced by four cameras that are routed through a video processor to
create a composite image with four frames. The upper left and upper right
frames are from left and right overhead cameras, respectively, and the two
lower frames are from similarly arranged frontal cameras. The frontal cameras
are hooded to exclude light from above the water, which provides a better
underwater view. The bird begins its dive at the water’s surface at the left
side of the field of view and moves to the right across all four video frames.
