It should be noted that the x-axis for each of the spectrograms is on a different time scale because the duration of each call was different. A typical long call consisting of three whistles is approximately 3-3.5 s in duration. Only examples of calls in which the interruption stimulus was broadcast during the whistle portion of the call are shown. For some calls in Experiment 2, the noise stimulus was broadcast during the chirp portion of the vocalization.
