A prey-simulating dipole electric field was presented to sandbar and scalloped hammerhead sharks via electrode pairs distributed over the surface of an acrylic plate. The underwater views show that both species respond to the weak electric field by clearly snapping with their lower jaw in an attempt to bite at the electric stimulus as if it were a natural prey item. Although their head morphologies differ dramatically, both scalloped hammerheads and sandbar sharks initiated orientations from approximately the same distance, thus responding to the same electric field intensity. The dorsal views also illustrate the difference in maneuverability between the more graceful scalloped hammerhead sharks and the more robust sandbar sharks.
