QuickTime Video JPEG Image

Movie:

The dorsal and lateral views of animals swimming in a flow tank at speed of
1-3 fork lengths s-1 were videotaped. The movie shows a dorsal view of an animal 20 cm in length swimming at 1.3 fork lengths s-1. The head is to the left and the tail is to the right. As the animal swims, the finlets oscillate in the z plane. The timing of oscillation is phased posteriorly, and the amplitude of oscillation increases posteriorly, with finlet 5 making the largest oscillation.
