Data for fasting, postweaned elephant seal pups (N=15) are means extrapolated from Fig.1 of Ortiz et al. (Ortiz et al., 2000). Data for West Indian manatees (N=4) held in fresh water are means extrapolated from Fig.2 of Ortiz et al. (Ortiz et al., 1998). Regressions were considered significant at P<0.05.
