The Osmotic Properties of Medusae

J. B. BATEMAN 1

1 Marine Biological Laboratory, Plymouth

1. Medusae show no osmotic regulation.

2. The total water of the jelly disc is osmotically free; it follows that nearly all the electrolyte present is also uncombined.

3. Gortner's statement that the medusae contain 99.8 per cent, water is contradicted.
