Water Balance in the Firebrat, Thermobia Domestica (Packard) : The Site of Uptake of Water from the Atmosphere

1. Occlusion of the anus prevents the uptake of water from subsaturated atmospheres.

2. It is suggested that the site of uptake is the rectum.

3. The implications of this finding are discussed in relation to other reported cases of uptake.
