Anaerobic Heat Production and Fructolysis of Bull Spermatozoa at Different Temperatures
1 Department of Zoology, University of Cambridge
1. The anaerobic heat production and fructolysis of bull spermatozoa has been measured at 37°, 27°, 17° and 7° (heat production only) C.
2. Between 37° and 27°, 27° and 17°, and 17° and 7° C. the mean temperature coefficients of heat production were 4.07, 3.23 and 8.92 during 90 min. incubation.
3. Between 37° and 27°, and 27° and 17° C. the mean temperature coefficients of fructolysis were 3.00 and 3.15 during 90 min. incubation.
4. The differences between the comparable values given in (2) and (3) are not statistically significant.
5. The temperature coefficient of the impedance change frequency of bull semen was 5.14 in one experiment and 4.17 in another. There were no impedance changes at 17° C.
