The Psysical Properties of the Swimbladders of Fish Other Than Cypriniformes

R. McN. ALEXANDER 1

1 Department of Zoology, University of Cambridge; Now at the Department of Zoology, University College of North Wales, Bangor

1. No excess internal pressure, such as has been found in the Cypriniformes, could be detected in the swimbladders of seventeen species from other orders. The swimbladder wall in these fish exercises no appreciable constraint on chnges of buoyancy with depth.

2. Determinations of sinking factor and swimbladder volume are reported.
