A NOTE ON THE CHITINOUS NATURE OF THE PERITROPHIC MEMBRANE OF MELANOPLUS BIVITTATUS SAY

The isolation of chitosan in pure form from Melanoplus excreta strongly suggests that the peritrophic membrane of this insect is chitinous; its amount is not over 1 per cent of the dry weight of the excreta.
