Fig. 5. Estimate of the input resistance (R_input) from the non-junctional (nj) and gap-junctional (gj) resistances (R) of principal cells. R_input can also be measured directly as the ratio ${Delta}$ V_bl1/ ${Delta}$ I_inject. The comparison of estimated values and values measured directly tests the short-circuit assumption needed to obtain measurements of the gap-junction resistance. In previous studies we have used R_pc to refer to R_input (Masia et al., 2000). The non-junctional resistance R_nj includes R_a, R_bl and R_lu.
