A log-log plot of time to peak gape (TTPG; ms) versus (A) volume (V; mm³) and (B) the change in volume per unit time (dV/dt; mm³ s^-1) for bluegill sunfish (circles) and largemouth bass (triangles). TTPG did not affect V significantly in bluegill (r²=0.02; P=0.6) or bass (r²=0.19; P=0.06). Additionally, TTPG was significantly negatively related to maximum dV/dt in bluegill (r²=0.45; P<0.01) but not bass (r²=0.25; P=0.08).
