Chloride cells on the primary filament (1°) and secondary lamellae (2°) were counted and analyzed separately. Groups with different letters were significantly different from one another (P<0.05, Student–Newman–Keuls test). Values are expressed as means ± S.E.M. At least 50 cells per individual and five individuals in each treatment group were measured.
